What is Aokigahara?

Aokigahara, or “The Twisted Forest,” is a forest at the bottom of Mount Fuji in Japan. This forest is the world’s third most popular suicide location. About 30 people commit suicide here per year. There have been so many suicides that workers there have put up signs asking people to rethink their decision and get help. Spiritualists say that the trees are filled with a malevolent energy accumulated from centuries of suicides. There are also large underground iron deposits that cause compasses to go haywire. People believe the forest is full of restless spirits. It is a real forest, but this is a fictional story.

What is it About?

Although in the first two chapters it may seem that the story is about a girl going through emotional and suicidal problems, the majority of the story takes place in a spiritual world in Aokigahara, where two high school students embark on an adventure of self-learning through strange obstacles and conflicts they encounter. It's pretty strange and different.
